One of our local theater groups, the Charleston Light Opera Guild, is closing it's production of the musical sensation Rent tonight. I attended last night's show and found that they actually did a pretty good job with the show. The cast was pretty good, for the most part. NINE - One man, 24 women and six little boys:) That will be a challenge indeed!

RENT should be able to translate to community theaters quite well. The cast is so young and many of the actors who wound up on tour and Broadway were given their first break in the show.

You sure you couldn't handle Captain Hook? :)

Yeah, the director would never cast me in the role. I'm too fat and don't have a large enough singing voice. This group likes big voices for their principal roles. I have done a lot of featured roles for the group, but nothing in the way of large roles like Hook. I have done quite a few lead roles for other groups, but the Guild is not going to be one until they change directors some time in the future.
