Vianne and Anouk were close behind. The little girl stared around at everything, wide-eyed and clutching her bag, her bright red cloak, fluttering as she spun every few steps to make sure she didn't miss anything.
Stopping at the door to the candy meadow room, he looked back and was almost startled to see that Anouk was there. He blinked, then simply grinned, unlocking the door and pushing it open, stepping through to allow them room.
Anouk just stood there, staring until Vianne gave her a light push. "It's beautiful, Monsieur Wonka," gushed the child, looking up at him. "Did you really make all of it?"
"I did, indeed, but I had a little help. Speaking of help..."
He looked about the place and then took a breath, lifting a hand and uttering a shrill, ululating cry.
Almost instantly, they were surrounded by over a dozen tiny men in matching coveralls of some kind of brightly coloured shiny stuff. The little creatures giggled loopily and started nudging them in opposite directions--Wonka and Vianne toward the Elevator, Anouk toward the house that stood incongroupusly in the field. And while they did so, music filled the air unaccountably.
"They're going to sing," Wonka pointed out almost unnecessarily.
And sing they did, in expert harmony, all the while whirling the little girl about in a wild dance.
"Come and play, little girl You're just in time for tea. Give this candyland a whirl While your mum and 'Willy' flee...."
