The Red Mass

Very elegantly put-together episode coming up. I adore the whole election arc. It's just a straight-line of great episodes. Anyway:

Red Mass, Red Mass, Red Mass, you say. )

First of all- lovely to see a(nother) fan that likes Amy. I even like Fanon Amy but there's a definite difference. Fanon Amy is elitist, bitchy, jealous of Donna, petty about Donna's lack of education, plotting, manipulative. I hav e yet to see a post series fic cover this adequately-the fact that Josh and Amy are friends. "Transitions" comes close, but that's the only one. Josh and Amy are friends, Josh values her opinion and Amy has no illusions about where she is in Josh's life throughout the series. I honestly think her attempt to set Josh up in " Requiem" was more of an "I'm happy, you need to be happy too" thing rather than a move to separate him from Donna(who she didn't know he was dating anyway). They are friends and they would be friends after Josh and Donna hooked up. That being said, Amy and Donna get Josh in different ways. Amy definitely gets his political thinking-as demonstrated throughout the series. She doesn't get his personality-as Donna points out in the kidnapping episode(too lazy to look up the title right now ( ... )

I don't read solely Josh/Donna stuff so my encounters with Fanon!Amy as a fictional character have been limited but I've read those complaints about her and I read J/D in fanfic that have other plots as well and I've encountered Fanon!Amy there too.

Agreed.

Also, I loathe Charlie in his scenes with Anthony. While he was quite correct to check Anthony for his behavior towards CJ in Twenty Hours in America II, he IS condescending here. Also, in "Election Night" Anthony checks him on this. Charlie may come from a ( ... )

i forgot to add that- that it was no doubt Charlie's mother who pushed him to get the jobs caddying and at the country club-she obviously saw her son's potential and pushed him. I don't get the feeling that Anthony's mother does this or that Anthony was particularly exceptional. Not everyone is or needs to be. But, Charlie is condescending and rude to Anthony-which probably wasn't helpful. I think that's why we don't see Anthony again after Election Night.

"Trying Friendship" by Kathleen is the best Josh/Amy friendship story, imo. It's available at the National Library.

Much as I love Josh/Donna, your meta about Amy is making me like her so much more as a character, yay :) I am newly appreciating how single-minded she is about her goals and her devotion to her causes.

That's great to hear. I adore Amy's devotion to her issues too. Dedication, FTW!
