Five Crooked Lines [2015 Toku]
My favorite video this year:
Either One Day or Running with the Boys. I had been working on One Day for over two years and everything about it just fits like a glove, whereas with Running with the Boys you may question my logic of using a song about happy childhood memories to a vid about child soldiers, but I feel my execution sold it.
My least favorite video this year:
Why do I keep this question in every year?! If I absolutely had to choose, I'd probably go with Space Colony. As much as a love it, I just don't ever feel myself wanting to actually watch it. Even though Resuscitate and Five Crooked Lines are a bit rough near the end due to time constraints, the first 2/3 of both are great vids and I still love watching them.
Most successful video:
Well, if I look at AO3 stats, Bad Reputation has the most kudos. I also seem to remember Leave Out All the Rest making a couple different rounds on Tumblr when it was first released. However, I have to give this award to Running with the Boys for what I brought up in the first question. Normally I feel like the best Dark Angel vids have a song choice that would fit perfectly on the soundtrack. Running with the Boys is not that song choice. Yet it still fits so perfectly that it trumped all of my other Dark Angel vids by a mile.
Video most underappreciated:
To be perfectly honest, with the exception of Leave Out All the Rest (and maybe Bad Reputation), I feel like they ALL could use more love. Especially when I realized that last year's least favorite (I Could Get Used to This) broke into my TOP FIFTEEN most viewed videos of all-time on YouTube.
Most fun to make:
The May vidlets (Pushover & Lightning). To be fair, my "most fun to make" is most likely always going to be a vidlet just due to the fact that I don't have to storyboard an entire song. Although, Running with the Boys and Resuscitate are up there as well.
Video with the single sexiest/most bad ass moment:
That expression Shelby gives as she's walking towards Kendall at about 0:38 in Bad Reputation. That was the moment where I was convinced they were girlfriends and Tyler is just Shelby's beard.
Biggest vid fail:
I can't really think of any actual fails, but the lackluster title screen for Space Colony is kind of annoying. But then again, the titles in my mash-ups are always kind of plain. And also the final 1/3 of both Resuscitate and Five Crooked Lines because of trying to get them finished before a deadline. They could have been more polished, but I didn't want to still be working on Five Crooked Lines when the new year was only hours away
Hardest video to make:
Well there is the obvious answer of One Day, which took me over two years to finish for no other reason except I was being lazy. But there was also Losing Sleep, which had been on my "list of vids to make" for at least twice as long. Of course, anything after Lightning was just getting in the way of my Splatoon time, so I had to use more force than usual to sit down and work on projects.
Most unintentionally telling video:
It's not really one video in particular, but the fact that my most vidded series this year is Power Rangers Samurai. The fact that Nicktoons pulled the reruns this year has given me withdrawals... even though I didn't really watch the reruns all the much.
The things I've learned this year:
Vidding is not a higher priority than Splatoon. Nothing is a higher priority than Splatoon. The only real way to get vids done anymore is to play Splatoon so much that I get burnt out for a few days.
In 2015:
I wanted to keep my average number of vids the same, and I upped my total from last year by one!
I also said I wanted to get my two Samurai vids finished, but I only completed one. (Pushover and The End is Where We Begin were new projects and don't count.)
In 2016:
- Keep my vid average the same.
- Finish my other Dark Angel vid that I started this year.
- Finish my Dino Charge video.
- Actually remember that I have an MMPR project sitting there waiting to be worked on.
- Make at least one more Haven video after I get over that series finale from the other week.
