We'll always have Gaborone

I think I have the most beautiful commute to work. I grab a bike from the Vélib' stand at the end of the road, go up to the river, and cycle along the Quai d'Orsay for a mile or so, before crossing the Seine into Place de la Concorde. On the way back home in the evenings it's even better. Coming south over Pont Alexandre III, with the Invalides ( Read more... )

I've seen Angel-A, beautiful film, and that is a stunning bridge. I'm jealous. My commute (a 20-minute walk up a hill) is currently hideous because Leeds' binmen are on strike and there's crap everywhere.

Still.

I love the True Blood opening! Didn't like season 2 as much as season 1 though and I gave up on it... Have you seen the Dexter opening sequence? I love that too.

I quite liked Angel-A, though I had the feeling I shouldn't.

I am also extremely jealous--of Paris, of Africa. Jealous, but glad for you.

I remember that bridge. Totally and utterly over the top.

Malory! He rocks!

London and I . . . have a love-hate relationship. I should probably post about that and jolt all the Americans. But remember the taxi drivers (used to? still do?) have to memorise the A to Z and are recommended to do it by bicycling around? And like Paris (and Vienna) London is a coalescence of villages. And while it doesn't have boulevards, it does have those weird Roman roads with their changing names. My dad pointed this out to me the first time London Transport was going on strike during my school years; I think I ultimately made that long walk in from Twickenham to Hammersmith three times, and the trick to it is to get on the right Roman road and stay on it, it goes alllll the way in.

Now someone is calling me back to editing Arinbjarnarkviða, sorry, toodles.
