I have been ill and off work today, mooching around the flat on our last day in it, and feeling bored. I really hope I'm feeling better tomorrow, because moving house in my current state is going to be a horrendous task.

I'm reading Davy Crockett's autobiography at the moment; it's a strange book, full of self-aggrandising and political ( Read more... )

Yikes. You're very good at finding the telling detail in a thing.

Please feel better!

Wait, how is that a classic example of American-backlash?

Well he goes on to say

I've been to Texas state
I didn't think it was all that fucking great
and Nebraska is just a bunch of songs
Holloway and Hampshire
is where I belong...

and the whole song turns into a kind of statement that English music doesn't have to worship America.

I haven't read it or seen the eponymous show, but I watched a Stephen Fry interview last night, and his thoughts on touring America seem as if they'd be interesting for you, especially before your trip. I think the book is called 'Stephen Fry Does America.' I expect it can't grapple with the type of passage you included above, though.

Yeah I saw a couple of episodes, but it was one episode per State, so he was going kind of too fast to be very thorough, I thought. Of course he's always got something interesting to say.

I saw Frank Turner the other week, it was fantastic. Despite having a couple of his albums I knew only 3 songs that he played, but it didn't matter. Well worth seeing him live if you haven't yet!

And I saw Vicky Christina the other day as well. We're so in sync. I liked it a lot, but it seemed more superficial than it thought it was. I think maybe the narration created a distance. It was good though...

Feel better!

We are in sync!
It's weird, I normally hate narration in films, but in VCB I thought it worked really well, since the whole thing was just an undisguised set-up for looking at different outlooks on love....I don't know, it just seemed very different from anything I've seen for ages, which was a good thing, and I always like films about the creative process. Doh and Scarlett Johannson snogging Penelope Cruz, obviously. The ending was sad though, I hate leaving a film on a downer.

was the ending sad because whorelett bitchansson dies or something? because if she does, i'd be into watching it. i've been boycotting it.
