"Heroes"

I saw about two-thirds of the episodes during the course of the season, then caught up with the ones I'd missed by watching the marathon on Sci-Fi this past Saturday. I thought the show was a good, solid piece of entertainment. It didn't sweep me away, but it kept me interested, and managed a few special moments: Sylar's mom in the swirling snow ( Read more... )

It's still not an entirely satisfying answer, but... thecuckoo May 22 2007, 20:09:20 UTC
Much of the old guard was either actively working towards the explosion (Angela/Linderman), writing the whole thing off (Claude), or in Japan (Mr. Nakamura). Charles knew he'd already be dead before most of the new characters would understand their powers. And even if he told Peter or someone else then, they probably would have written him off as a demented, dying old man.

Much like many sticking points throughout the season, however, that explanation requires a lot of contrivance and handwaving (Mohinder's magic blood, anyone?). I think the show was ill-served by having to fill 22 episodes (what show isn't?), and there would have been far fewer pacing issues if they'd stuck to the throughline (which I agree, was decidedly there, even if I didn't always like how they travelled to it).

I'll probably keep watching for the Bennets, as I agree they are the best part of the show, but I don't think this will get a place on my shelf.

Hey, if the Doctor Who team can make a part of Cardiff look like New York's Central Park in 1930, the Heroes team can put the Chrysler Building in Los Angeles. The bridge where Sylar intercepted and killed Ted looked familiar, too. Sixth Street, maybe?

During all that time when Peter was lying face-down in the middle of the street, I was thinking, "Gee, it's a good thing everyone in New York decided to take the night off from driving."

And while I'm certain there are a great many Hiro/Ando shippers out there, I'm also fairly certain that any justification for their shipping exists in their own minds and not on the screen. But that's just me.

Totally in agreement about Suresh's voice overs. I complained about them earlier in the season and was happy when they seemed to be phased out near end of the season. The ones last night were particularly gag-inducing ( ... )

I've loved the season, even as I recognize that there were weaknesses. But the ability to tell a coherent story lasting 23 episodes is amazing, and the evolution of the major characters (Hiro, Peter, Claire, and oddly, Sylar) drew me in liek woah. Even the characters where I wasn't sure what was going on (Mohinder, Nathan, Niki) were usually interesting, and Mohinder's stupidity got to be hilarious after a while.

I see Hiro and Ando as the best of friends, and want to squish them together forever.

Peter and Claire shouldn't have been related. Because any scene where they were in frame, they looked like love vibes were drawing them together, and I was 'shipping them something fierce. Oh fandom, what you've done to me.
