The story's even older than that kuzibah August 8 2007, 19:05:49 UTC
I've said before that I could more or less predict the story arc in Harry Potter because it follows the classical journey of the hero. Harry (and Buffy, and Luke Skywalker) are walking in the footsteps of Theseus and King Arthur.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a guaranteed formula for success, however. Quite a few sci-fi/fantasy movies and novels (and almost every super-hero comic ever written) follow the theme without becoming hits.

Good article, though. Thanks for the link.

I got into Harry Potter at the time I did. I'd seen all the movies but never read any of the books.

Then I just decided a couple months ago to read the first one and I of course continued to read one right after the other because they're impossible to put down once you start them. I read them all in less than a month's time. So sad that now Buffy AND Harry Potter are over!

I need a new obsession!

The "chosen one" theme gets me EVERY time. Who doesn't wish that one day they could just find out they're "something special?"

Cool article Bill. Thanks for posting it.
