I've always thought that being in an entertainment union must be very difficult because there are so many people willing to do it for free (and in a lot of cases, already doing it for free.) I know people are grouching that the writers have it easy and should just shut up and be grateful, but Joss makes a good point. If they don't negotiate for the digital rights now, they'll be in no position when that becomes the dominant form.

The producers position on digital distribution is really foul, especially given that the formula used to determine VHS, and by extension DVD, residuals was supposed to be a stopgap measure and increased once production costs were better understood. I was bopping around the WGA's YouTube channel last night, and maybe I'm just sympathetic because I'm frustrated with networks and entertainment corporations mucking about with artistic vision and diluting it for "marketability", but the writers and actors were making terrific points.

And Joss! I had my differences with some of his decisions for Angel and Buffy, but I still adore him.

Wow, Joss actually sounds mature, serious and thoughtful. You don't see that in his online postings very often...
