So that's what they are called! thespice May 15 2008, 19:20:49 UTC
Jacaranda!

Last Friday, E was on his way to L.A. and sent me a text message asking for the name of the beautiful purple trees...

"Where?" I responded.

"Everywhere."

Heh.

Lovely, lovely, lovely! These tress and the scent of jasmine in the air at night. I love L.A.

Night jasmine is another fave thing about LA for me.

I like jacarandas so much, I worked them into a song:

I found an apartment with a courtyard inside
I put my name up by the door in Malibu tile
It was a pretty little place in an old bungalow
With a window in the back where the jacarandas grow
Take me to the ocean and show me the bay
In old Santa Monica, and there I will stay

- "California Deluxe"

If I ever actually had my songs published, I'd call the company Jacaranda Music. It sounds cool and mysterious.

Jacaranda! I'm sad to see the blossoms already falling. They come and go so quickly.

Hey - Tom and I are hosting a dramatic reading party (the first of many, I'm hoping) on Saturday, May 31. I believe Sophie might be coming - I know Audra wanted to but I'm not sure if schedule permits. There will be others there, too, and I bet you'd enjoy them. Care to join us?

Yes, I would. wwolfe May 15 2008, 20:18:29 UTC
I have a friend visiting me from North Carolina either that weekend or the one before. If it's the same weekend, then we probably won't be able to come, but if it's not, then I'd be happy to go.

Let me check my calendar and I'll let you know.

OK, I've now double-checked with my friend. wwolfe May 19 2008, 22:43:28 UTC
And he will be here the weekend of May 31. So I won't be able to make it. Which I'm sorry about, because it sounds like fun. Thanks for asking me, and I'd like to be there if another soiree is attempted.

"Whedon's 'Dollhouse' ... is about an illegal house of men and women whose memories and personalities have been wiped out so that they can be hired to be anyone and do anything."

Wasn't "Any job, anywhere," the mantra of the Serenity crew as well?

I don't know about this one. The premise isn't an instant grabber like Buffy, or even Firefly for that matter, so it will come down to how well the idea is executed, and how patient the network is willing to be. As I said the other day, FOX has an abysmal track record with SF-type stuff. But at least they aren't putting it on Friday, aka the place FOX sends SF shows to die.

I had the same reaction to the premise. wwolfe May 15 2008, 20:25:45 UTC
I also thought the original premise of "Angel" - vampire as Philip Marlowe-esque noir detective in present day LA - was a good one. So I'll hope it makes sense when I see it on the air.

I'll just go along with the exec and say he has me at "hello". thespice May 15 2008, 22:23:44 UTC
It's a Whedon TV show. I've enjoyed his others, so I'll definitely give this one a shot with an open mind.

Plus, the luscious Dushku. I can enjoy looking at her for at least the pilot episode.
