They go out for ice cream on a summer night, and he’s eaten two cones before she finishes one.
While they sit in the truck, she somehow manages through her endearing clumsiness to smear chocolate across her elbow and she doesn’t even notice. He points it out, but they don’t have napkins.
Before he can think, Jake leans over and licks it straight off her arm.
He’s explaining. You can’t waste good ice cream.
She’s laughing.
Silence stretches, but then there’s another smear on her chin and a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Do I have something on my face?
