Public Statement

Recent private drama has warranted the following public statement: If I decide that I never want to speak with you, I'll tell you myself. I will never pass on such a message through a third party, an act, as I judge it, of cowardice. I have only come to this decision a few times in my life, and I haven't done so in the last couple of years.

I'm the same way. I recently had to cut ties with people and it wasn't the first time. There are a lot of people I can't say I never want to see again, but they definitely cannot be in my life very much because they are just too much drama.

We were several years without contact before she called again. With an uncharacteristic (for me) absence of rancor and premeditation, I said only, "Good bye," and broke the connection.

Sometimes the words are a formality for what has long been fact, a declaration of emotional bankruptcy.
