I had my first Japan experience in the summer of 2005. If you have any questions or if I can relieve any of your stress at least about that leg of the trip, shoot me an email. lanigan333@yahoo.com Believe me...I completely understand the language and budget concerns!!!
TAKE A DEEP BREATH

You'll be ok! Just take a deep breath and try to tackle one problem at a time.
The Asia trip IS once-in-a-lifetime, and it will be so worth it in the end. Remember that you're not doing it alone, either. Maybe talking with some of the others can help to relieve some of your anxiety.
The roommate thing will work out, too; I just know it. I'm glad you'll have a chance to meet some of the candidates before you have to make a decision. If you can share a 3-person (HA HA) tent with a stranger, then you can share a whole house with a near-stranger, no problem. Just think of it as an opportunity to make another great friend.
I hope you're feeling better. This is major stuff you're dealing with, but it sounds like you're taking care of those things that you have some control of, which is good. I don't blame you for freaking out though. My dad visited Japan last year and said that not knowing the language real well wasn't a problem, but China might be a different story. Jack Kain traveled to China a few years ago, he might have some helpful tips for you. I hope the money stuff works out quickly for you and you end up with some cool housemates. Take care!
