Moving on...

I've been in a bit of a funk for the last month and a half--it's that slightly depressed feeling that tends to impede getting things done ( Read more... )

F**k the PhD...you know more about baseball than any of those turds* on TBS. You can be the new Bonnie Bernstein.

Daisuke would like you to stop by the Bayou tonight.

* - Cal Ripken is pretty awesome, though. Simple, relevant baseball talk, that's all we ask for.

I like Cal, he's the only redeeming part of the studio crew... but, even he doesn't seem that comfortable with the camera yet...

I do really like the scorecard graphics TBS does for each player that comes up to bat... it's a quick and relevant recap without getting in the way.

We'll see about the bayou tonight, right now I'm thinking of ordering a pizza and watching the game at home. Also, if things go poorly I can always break my own stuff...

Sorry to hear that you've been in a funk. It is bizarre that you're expected to have this whole "what's next?" thing figured out before you're even finished with your dissertation. I was lucky to be able to just worry about finishing and not have to worry about finding a new job until a couple of years later. While I'm not sure if it'll help much (you'll probably hear a lot of what you already know), I might suggest checking with that network of PhDs that you have around there for advice on whether or not to do a post-doc prior to going after a faculty position. Maybe we could work on a proposal and have you do a post-doc here?

Glad to see Indians beat the Yankees by 3 field goals. Interesting the Francona went with Dice-K over Schilling, but probably better to have Schilling pitch the first road game.

I think it's the smart move, playing shil in game 3 on the road--much more experience, etc, etc... hopefully we'll get the win today and close the series quickly. At least I haven't seen any bonehead moves from Francona (although now i'm afriad of jinxing)... What the hell was Piniella thinking "saving" Zambrano for a might-not-even-exist-game-4 when game 1 was tied... after seeing Grady Little 'managing' the red sox and even Torre this season not getting the call whether or not he uses players in his bullpen, I honestly think I could make be a MLB manager...

career-wise, it might be smart to get more into this data assimilation/enkf thing.. Wicker is using all my SR data for part of the vortex2 proposal.. what are you working on these days? do you think doing a post-doc is the smart thing?

Yea, who knows what Piniella was thinking. The pitching matchups look to be heavily in the Indians favor, but I probably just jinxed them too. Would be great to see you managing a MLB ballclub ( ... )
