I have mixed feelings about your post... on the one hand, I don't like when deaf people play the deaf card... but on the other hand... airports are really not deaf friendly

I avoid playing the "deaf" card, I don't like when I'm told to go up and board first...however.....some airports are hell to get through when you can't understand a thing that is going on with delayed flights and change of gates. I have missed several potential standbys on early flights, because I didn't hear announcements being made. I have been unsure as to if I'm boarding the correct flight, because of the design of the terminal/gates. I have not known when my flight will take off

That's absolute rubbish. Deaf people have no reason to get priority seating on a plane. I can understand them wanting to go up to the counter and teling the 'desk people' that they are hearing imparied and may need additional information/instructions, but they have no reason to get in line with people who really NEED to be in that line. I'd be completely embarassed. And what's wrong with waiting a little bit to get on a plane? JESUS.
my first year of college, which was also my first year of my flying solo, i would go up to the desk and tell them i was deaf and would not be able to hear any announcements. sometimes i was ignored and it was my choice when i wanted to get into line, and other times they would pratically hold my hand and guide me to the plane which was more embarassing for me than getting in the line with children and those with disabilities. i just think as long as they dont provide the visuals as to when i am supposed to get on the plane (atlanta has that, rochester doesn't) i can get on the plane whenever i damn well want to. as long as the people like the mother and old lady who needed to be in the line go first.
i don't do that! :) haha i always feel so uncertain about when i'm supposed to be boarding that i let a few groups of people board before me before i get in line to make sure i didn't get in the special boarding thing.
although sometimes its really unnerving if the plane's been delayed, then the gates have been changed, or if theres two planes going out from the same gate that i just walk up when i see the first person and ask the desk person if its time for me to board or not
