Its been awhile

Its really been a while since I worked up a good rant. I just really have not had the reason to rant, not truly rant in true redhead fashion...until this weekend...

This past weekend, The 9/11 weekend, I did what the majority of the american population did, I observed the day in quiet. I watched the documentaries, viewed the memorial lights that each year since the first anniversary of 9/11, illuminate heavenward on the precise place the towers once stood.

This was "MY" skyline. A symbol of power, prosperity, and the icon of what was the Manhattan skyline, is no more. Instead they intend to build the most horrendous tower in its place...

WHO APPROVED THIS Design? Who really wants it.

Take a good look at it. IT looks like a giant shard of broken glass sticking into the rib of Manhattan. ITs not beauty, its an eyesore.
While I agree that many of the features are admirable, the paths of hero's, the beam of light, I do not think this "Freedom Tower" can even sparsely compare to what was. The icon of the twin towers standing proudly against the Manhattan Skyline.

I Still think they should be built EXACTLY as they were, yet stronger and better, and one story taller. Instead, what is being built there seems to be a memorial to fear. While its true its going to be 1776 feet high, only 70 stories are going to be usable office space. The rest will be enshrouded turbines. In essence, "chicken wire wrapped around a facade". This does not represent America..nor does it represent the resilience of NY, in any facet.

Have you ever encountered a new yorker? They are one tough group of people. They take no shit, and certainly most agree, that this tower is just Gov'nr Pataki wanting to have something "built" on ground zero before his term in office runs out, why? So he can be remembered as the Gov'nr that rebuilt the ruin.

This new tower should be a memorial to the 343 firefighters that perished that day...It SHOULD be a memorial to the over 2500 that died..it should be a memorial WORTHY Of their memory. With a quiet place that many of the families who did not have bodies to bury can go, and remember their fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters. It should hold a museum of the Towers, from conception to birth, and death, and fragments of the towers, such as the steel girder cross, the remnants of the flag that flew and was retrieved from the rubble, and the steel globe, that for years stood proudly in front of the giants. Perhaps a quiet reflecting pool that each year on the anniversary of 9/11, 2 beams of light illuminate the foot prints of where the towers stood. Don't insult us with this shard of glass stuck haphazardly in our skyline...

Build them the way they were....Stronger...Proud and exactly one story higher as a message...Were america...you can knock us down...but you cant keep us that way!

Sorry for the rant...but its just how I felt...

Peace to all!
