"Are you sure you want to do this?" Key pursed his lips, fingers clenching his sweater sleeves nervously. As he stared at the crestfallen look on his best friend's face, he felt his something break within his chest.
"You don't have to," Key continued, gently tugging on JongHyun's hand. "You can keep it a secret, and no one will know."
"Kibum..."
"I mean, other people within our company kept their relationships a secret for years before anyone even got close to finding out."
"Hey..."
Key stopped, staring at the ground. He willed gravity not to let the tears in his eyes fall.
"They will hate you," Key finally whispered. "They won't understand...they'll leave you, say you're selfish...they won't love you anymore."
Key hated the way JongHyun sighed, the way his eyes shut wearily into tiny slits and his mouth twisted into a broken frown.
"I know," JongHyun muttered. He leaned back against wall, his pale face blending sickeningly with the drab wall. "But I want this."
"I want to be selfish for once....I want to be happy, for myself," he continued. "I want to experience what I missed out on....I want to love."
To be happy?
"Is it that wonderful?" Key whispered, watching the way a light seemed to spread across his friend's face. Suddenly, the tired lines seemed to just go away, eased into a youthful smile.
"Yeah...it is."
There was silence as the pair sat in thought, watching their reflections on the practice room mirrors. Key focused on their images, the childish way their hair flopped around their eyes, free of gel and spray, and the dark circles lining their eyes, the small red spots breaking out across their chins.
"It's going to be different now, huh?" Key murmured, toeing the hard floor.
"My no longer single status, or SHINee's suddenly dwindled fan base?" JongHyun grinned cheekily. Key snorted but couldn't suppress the way his mouth twitched slightly around the corners.
"No matter what, we're still SHINee. Shining SHINee, brighter than any fucking star in this entire God forsaken universe," JongHyun chortled. Holding out his hand, he met Key's own cold palm in a loud smack.
Ultra SHINee transformation.
"I'll be fine," JongHyun smiled sadly. "I mean, you'll be here for me, right?"
Key stared at their reflections. Two boys, just past teen years but hopelessly lost. Hopelessly confused.
"Yeah...I will," Key smiled. "We were forced to be in a group together, so I guess I'll have to be there for you....at least, for a while."
JongHyun's teeth sparkled brilliantly underneath the dull fluorescent lights, relief shining in those tired eyes.
"Thanks, Kibum," he sighed. "Just....thanks." JongHyun carefully leaned against Key, eyes shutting in bliss.
Two teens...hopelessly lost...
"Hey," JongHyun started. "Aren't you the one who always talks about getting married?"
Key narrowed his eyes, hand slowly reaching for the water bottle next to him.
"So, it must suck, huh?" JongHyun teased, mouth turning up playfully. "Your best friend got a girl before you did. Ha!"
The water bottle collided with JongHyun's hair with a painful slam, the plastic crackling with the impact. JongHyun groaned in pain, rubbing his sore head. Key rolled his eyes and reached for another bottle when he caught their reflection once more.
Hopelessly lost....but laughing and together....

Key turned away, eyes sparkling wet under the bright stage lights.
"Hey Kibum, you all right?" Minho said softly, reaching out hesitantly. Key looked over to see JongHyun stare at him worriedly, a frown etched on his dark brows.
"Yeah. Just, I don't think lunch settled well," Key replied, trying to smile. Nodding, Minho turned away, flashing the audience another flawless smile.
Key watched the crowd, the hundred of girls screaming and crying in glee. Averting his gaze, he turned to look at his members.
He watched as the lights flickered over their faces, highlighting the layers of powder and hairspray. Young adults molded into beautiful, stoic statues.
Tomorrow...Key thought. When he tells the world...all this....it'll change forever.
But then, for a brief second, Key saw their true selves- the awkward teenagers who dreamed big dreams and stumbled into a practice room long ago, eager for the future and a chance to perform.
Looking over, Key met JongHyun's eyes. Lips curling into a slight smile, JongHyun winked at him, whispering a brief Thanks.
Yeah....teens, hopelessly lost...
Grinning, Key turned back, taking a deep breath, and let the beat of the music flow into his head.
But we have each other. And that's enough to get us through.
A/N: Let's bring some happy into the SHINee world, shall we? :) I think there's enough angst fics for now, so I thought I would contribute something different. It was a bit spur-of-the-moment, but hopefully, people enjoyed it. And yeah, reading over it....I realize that some random is happening....I apologize.
