Lady Gaga, or TW?

Once upon a time, when I was, um, 'younger', shall we say, in my dating practices, I hooked up with TW. Total babe. Very nice, and complementarily kinky to my kinks. We had a good time, but she was, alas, unwilling to be frank about her divided attentions, which is why I finally (after a few severe clue-by-4 impacts) quit going there.

But while the ( Read more... )

Have you read Saturn's Children by Charlie Stross?

I've heard ... informed speculation ... that the fembot character Gaga plays in Bad Romance is based on the fembot who is the main character in that book. Think of a highly intelligent self-aware animatronic inflatable doll.

why, hello, my favorite Bostoonian! Long time no talk.

I have some Stross books right here (Accelerando is one, which is going to fuel an argument about book titles btwn me and my editor soon, I predict) - but no, I'm not familiar with the work you mention. Fascinating notion. LG is great at folding in all kinds of send-ups and parodies and social commentary, quite intentionally, in her work. I'm not surprise if such subtext is planned.

Must...go...read...more..Strosss..

It's Baltimore, not Boston. I know, east coast city, starts with B.

Does Bad Romance make more sense if you think of the central character as a fembot rather than a human woman?

Yeah. And I think she's the most talented female performance artist (in terms of effecting her artistic vision) to come along since Madonna.

Absolutely. She is that, too. I haven't had a video (Bad Romance) knock me on my ass like that in a long time.

Ironically, there is a name for the person you describe in the so-called "mens movement" of the 1990s. She is called, "the girl with the golden hair." Most often, she is someone the immature male spends a few to several hours with in a social or academic setting or, more rarely, a professional one. There is enough time for a genuine emotional connection to develop, but not enough to see the person's imperfections or understand her character completely. This infatuation can be carried by the male throughout much of his adult life. Even after the male overcomes the infatuation, a deep fondness often remains for the rest of his life ( ... )
