Urban fantasy novels with a strong female protagonist. Even when they're fluff, I can't get enough of 'em.

How do you reconcile your choice to opt out of society (by not voting, etc.) with your choices to continue receiving the benefits that society has to offer (that is, you're OK with not voting as a philosophical choice because you dislike society, but you still have a driver's license?)

Hehe, love the icon!

I don't really feel I have opted out of society. Much as I dislike our culture and want to see it destroyed, I recognise that I am a part of it. I am a civilised white american, whether I like what those things stand for or not. I will happily avoid or minimise what aspects of those things that I can, though, when doing so is easily workable for me and seems to be a good thing. I see the electoral process, particularly at the national and state levels, as an exercise in marketing, distraction, and placation, and I personally feel that my active participation in such would be futile at best and a tacit approval of an evil system at worst, and avoiding it requires no effort or sacrifice on my part. So that is one of those aspects that I avoid.

That being said, though, I'd also like to mention that even if I did feel I was attempting to opt out of society, I don't see that as needing reconciliation with using its benefits. I see the question as being the equivalent of 'You don't accept that you should be in ( ... )
