At 6:30 am this morning I got a text message from my friend Pat who is part of the San Diego Urban Search & Rescue Group. done. I thought the same thing when I heard shelters weren't allowing pets. I can understand why, but in my short list of things I'd take in the event of an evacuation, the pets are #1 and mandatory, everything else is optional.

I also saw another article where they've started shooting animals for the safety of the rescue workers and that the Humane Society out there already has over 4,000 animals.

A friend from work is in NOLA as part of the animal rescue team. He was one of the ppl who rescued animals during the fires of '03. He left Thurs, a week ago......so hopefully not many more animals will die...
very sad indeed.
