Plans for ID cards are too risky and lack the trust of the public, a London School of Economics report claims.

If the schools/school caterers are required to produce a decent meal for under 37p per child per meal (and I'm sure the quote I heard on R4 earlier today was that the 37p was supposed to also account for the cost of producing it, not just the ingredients!), why the fuck do we (as parents) pay something more like £1.40 per child per meal if we want them to have school dinners?

AIUI, the amount is for the ingedients.

The rest is staff pay, heating, fuel, etc.

School finances are fascinating - and frightening. You ought to be able to get a copy of the financial report for the school - if the school doesn't have them to hand, contact the governors (there will be one in charge of such things).

They're not making money on the dinners... or much else, if they are like most schools.
