More Addie ramblings

May 06, 2008 00:45

You know, I'm probably just reading WAY too much into Addie's Present at this point, but I swear that game has some psychological merit to it. (: Seriously, I'm convinced now that the characters Addie meets in her weird little dream town represent various aspects of her psyche, and the way they interact with one another shows a tremendous insight ( Read more... )

River Fantasia game play is broken....hmmmm, sounds like Square's SaGa series(i'm a SaGa fan). I better stop posting more comments because: A/LJ is not a game forum and B/ your journal was about Addie..., so for my last question, how difficult is Addie play to non-Japanese gamer like me? (i want to start learning Japanese but i don't know where to start). :(

No need to delete anything! Sorry I haven't responded yet... I've been really lazy. (:

You also don't have to worry about posting lots of comments (LJ isn't a game journal, but *my* LJ basically is!). Keep 'em coming, if you want!

To answer your question, Addie's Present is relatively import friendly. The puzzles all use English words, and the interface is mostly in English as well. You'll miss some of the story, but even most of that can be figured out through context (except for the more abstract stuff, but that's the kind of thing that won't make much sense even IN context!). (: The one downside to playing it without Japanese knowledge is that a lot of trial and error will be involved: to advance the story, you'll pretty much have to go EVERYWHERE, and talk to EVERYONE, since you won't know specifically where you're SUPPOSED to go. But the game world is pretty small, so it's not that bad.

Overall, it's more import-friendly than most, and I recommend it.

Thanks for the info flcl_neku June 6 2008, 10:58:03 UTC
OH MAN! Really disappointed to hear that, PS2 PoPoLoCrois i mean. I've seen the opening animation for PoPoLoCrois a while back, it's looks cool (annoyingly, it's Japan only), i guess i'll download the anime, and thanks for translating it :). PoPoLoCrois is the first game(s) i bought for the PSP (06)...., i still haven't played it though because i still don't have a PSP lol. ALSO! Sony are bastards for not releasing PoPoLoCrois (PS1/1 & 2) to the US when they had the chance.

Thanks for the info, and excellently written reviews.

Have you Code Age Commanders? I know it's repetitive and the graphics are very Kingdom Heartsesque but i think it better than KH. Kingdom Hearts is way to weird, and the FF characters, there's no reason for the FF characters to even be in the game, they sevre no purpose to the story.

PAL: Shinken Densetsu flcl_neku June 19 2008, 08:49:16 UTC
OH GEEZ...this is awkward because i haven't gone that far....
The blue deity trial i don't know what to do...., hearts and red fish fall, i try to dodge the fish but i end up failing the trial.(WTF!?!) Do i have to the dodge the fish? Graphics remind me of PS1 Tales of Destiny/Arc the Lad 2

Katakana is a good starting point. I actually just answered this question semi-recently on the Ancient Land of Ys message board. Here's a link to the topic:

You should be able to find some good starting points there.

Thanks very much dude. Even better knowing you mentioned some books as well, really FANTASTIC! Way too much books out there, wasn't sure which ones to get/trust.

None of my business really but..., you're Ys fan? Hmmm...That's one series i've neglected.... Ys VI(LE) was the first game i bought from Playasia and i really enjoyed it (hell, i even bought the US ver lol). Also at the time, i was also planning to get the PS2 remakes of Ys I&II & III....but i decided not to get them in the end (i'm always wary of remakes). Ugh..the SNES ones don't come up very often on Ebay....

Anyhoo, thanks again.

The PS2 remakes of Ys I & II are decent, but they're basically the same games as Falcom's own "Ys I & II Complete" for PC - and if you buy that instead, you get better load times, higher screen resolution, and a DOWNLOADABLE ENGLISH PATCH. So I'd go with Ys I & II Complete if I were you ( ... )
