In saying that, for some Trek fans (or HP fans, or Whovians, or whomever), their favorite show is like unto a religion, I think I see a way in which that observation runs deep. The economy is our ecology. Humans live in societies which gather resources and distribute them. We depend on them for survival. Our societal niche is our ecological niche.
