So I'm going to be unemployed after June 1. My parents will likely be looking to sell their house, so I kind of want to go back and take care of my stuff. I could fly to North Carolina, but I was sort of thinking that taking a road trip would be more awesome, and it's unlikely that I'll have a month free in the nearish future to do this sort of

It goes without saying that it would be awesome to see you. I'll be in DC for the independence day ball July 2-6, so that's probably not an ideal time to aim for charlottesville (unless you want to come take classes :) ).

Holy shit that would be brilliant. I was thinking about where I might want to spend Independence Day, and doing ballroom would be freaking sweet.

Do you already have plans to stay somewhere? Would it be imposing if I attempted to get in on them? I'll have to think about if I want to spend that much money. Maybe just a couple of days?

Plans so far are to stay in a hotel room with 3-4 UVA people, including my partner, the first night (in order to get the discount), and then stay at her house in NoVA the rest of the time, so... probably not easy to get in on. I could potentially be persuaded to split a room for a few nights; it would be nice not to have the commute in the evenings and mornings. Not sure if it would be bad to skip out on them like that, though.

If you're coming or going at the beginning/end, it would be awesome if you could give me a ride; I was planning on taking the train up and making my partner pick me up/drop me off.

Will answer more thoroughly later, but ys, car camping is awesome and cheaper than hotels by far. You'll probably want a tent, and bear in mind that summer campgrounds can sell out fast. Also, there's a giant motorcycle rally in SD in mid-late summer, so check the dates on Sturgiss. I hear you want to be careful about where you camp if your dates overlap.

Thanks for tips! Looks like I would be missing the motorcycle rally by a few weeks. Do you have a favorite method of finding campgrounds? It looks like there are a few websites that find them for you.
