to what extent are people liable for injuries they cannot see? i realize that i am nowhere near death, but that doesn't stop me from being unhappy that my vision has been permanently compromised. this is not something anyone else can see -- the odd thing is that a broken leg would have caused more of a stir -- and no one ever would have expected ( Read more... )

O my God. i am hoping the best. i'm so sorry i have been out of touch for so long & so much has transpired. (i use this journal to save personal notes & bramblings (portmanteau of babbling + rambling i suppose) & to-dos but never read my friends-page or actually, you know, compile other-directed narrative ( ... )

my dearest, thank you for your message. i've missed your writing and worried about how you were doing. i didn't know you'd had an eye injury, too. they have not explained things well to me, but from what i understand, the force of the kick (which was to the temple, not the eye itself -- which also meant that i had symptoms of concussion, though they told me at the time i did not have one since i didn't pass out) was enough to cause the vitreous matter of the eye to pull away from the retina. its deformation casts a shadow on the retina, which causes the spots; it also puts me at higher risk for retinal detachment, which can cause blindness. i'm trying now to get a second opinion to see if there is treatment, but i am dubious, also tired of going to the hospital (i think i went 9 or 10 times in july alone, all related to this one sickening blow, and they always seem to conclude that since i am walking and talking i am fine. this angers me, too, because i know how much i am compensating, and i know also that i haven't "gotten used ( ... )
