It wasn't easy to stuff a suitcase full of 69 jars of paopu jelly, but that's just what Axel did.

Well, okay. 69 was a little much, even for the humorous amount. It was just a picnic, after all.

"Huh... I've never been here before." Roxas looked around, it was a clearning on a little cliff looking down into a meadow. Really pretty, actually.

Except for the fact that Axel was definitely going to hit on him again. Ewww.

"Really? I go hiking here all the time. It's a fun place to sled, in the winter." He got to work setting out a blanket, and taking out the picnic foods - breads and various sorts of jams and spreads. He picked up one of the jars - and quickly tore off the label.

Roxas turned around. "What was that?"

"Nothing. Are we gonna eat or what?"

Roxas felt his ears redden. Axel probably didn't even mean anything dirty by that, it was just... no matter what Axel actually said, it had the tendency to come out like an innuendo. "Hey, this one doesn't have a label."

"It's magical."

"No seriously, what's in it?" It was probably love potion or something equally retarded.

Axel shrugged, opened it and sniffed. "No idea. Smells good, though." He nonchalantly spread some on his toast.

Roxas rolled his eyes and sat back on his heels. Well, it did smell good. He experimentally took a little bit on his knife and tasted it.

Axel watched his tongue avidly.

"...Hey, this is really good." Roxas blinked down at his knife, shrugged, then spread some on top of the peanut butter he'd already put. Couldn't hurt. He bit into the sandwich with relish.

"Ew, peanut butter and paopu jelly? That's nasty."

Roxas froze, and suddenly Axel realized what he'd just said. Oh shit.

"Paopu jelly? PAOPU jelly?! Are you fucking kidding me?!!" He threw the sandwich down with all his might.

Shit, there was really no way out of this one... Axel grinned. "Yup. From the same lovely star-shaped fruit." He dangled his half-eaten toast in front of Roxas's face. "See? We're meant to be together."

"You... you tricked me!" Dirty, lying, cheating BASTARD!

"Well, duh. How else was I supposed to get you to eat it?"

"You weren't!" Roxas turned away from him and tucked his knees under his chin, stubbornly looking out over the trees.

Jeez... did I actually hurt his feelings? "Um... Roxas?"

"Go away."

Axel shrank back, and thought to himself for a second. "...Look, Roxas."

Stony silence.

"...I'm sorry, okay? I didn't mean to... it was just a joke, right?"

"Was it really?" Roxas spun around and pinned Axel with a cold cerulean stare. "Was it really a joke? Because maybe that's what pisses me off so much. How can you just take something like... like sharing a paopu fruit, and make light of it?"

Axel shuffled nervously; it was hard to meet those eyes.

"Just... think about who you're dealing with, okay?" He turned around again, and stared out over the cliff. "I'm only here because I owe you."

"Ah, now you're being contradictory." Axel stood up and sat down again next to Roxas, who flinched slightly. "Either I'm supposed to take you seriously, or treat you like this means nothing to me."

"Well?" Roxas turned to look at him. "Which is it?"

Axel blinked at him, then sighed. "Roxas, I'm in love with you. I had a huge crush on you before, but the more time I spend with you, the more I... like you." He shook his head. "But if you don't want me treating you like that, then fine. For your sake, I can pretend it's just revenge for losing my job."

Roxas stared at his shoes, feeling awful and awfully uncertain. "Just..."

Axel glanced sideways at him.

"...just act the way you feel," he muttered, blushing. "That's better than lying to me."

"Okay. Then I'll ask you this time - do you want some of the paopu jelly? It's really tasty. Even with peanut butter." Axel grinned.

Roxas chuckled. "Well... not really, but considering the damage is already done..." he tried to ignore the slight wince that passed over Axel's face when he said 'damage', "...I might as well finish the sandwich."
