loud and messy like fingerpaint

jaemin; g; 833 words

He's got stories and love confessions scribbled and scrawled on post it notes, dumped at the bottom of his bag, desperately wanting and waiting to be found. A sneaky smile makes its way to his lips when he hears Jaejoong talking in his head, calling his bag 'the second black hole'. Changmin insists that he just likes being prepared.

"Band-aids, eye drops, candy mints, glittery pens -- do you have children I don't know about?"

"Children?"

"Yeah. You've got a 'mom bag'. " Jaejoong quotes the last two words with his fingers.

"It's a man purse." Changmin tries to emphasize the word man, but knows of the cursed awesome power that is the word purse. "One of these days, you'll need something from me, and I won't let you have it."

"I'll beat you up and look for it myself."

He likes being really prepared; you just never know how it can save you. Whenever Changmin thinks of a way to tell Jaejoong about this little crush he's developing, he scribbles it down on his purple post-its (soon to be teal post-its once he's through this pad) and leaves them in his bag, thinks if the moment is right he'll just reach in and grab one to use. It's exciting and spontaneous, he thinks.

//

They had met through Junsu, a mutual friend, and as Changmin soon learns, a somebody that seems like they just wanted more cheerleaders at their soccer game ("I promise it isn't", Junsu says, pulling off his best 'believe me' smile, "Just come and keep each other company, okay?"). Jaejoong invites Changmin over to make cupcakes for Junsu's game. He's walking from one end of his small kitchen to the other with Changmin standing in the middle, holding a big bowl of cupcake batter and mixing slowly as he watches on.

"Okay. Okay. Now just pour it in."

With Jaejoong finally standing still, Changmin walks over to him at the counter, pouring the batter into little cupcake liners with care. "I see the only place you're the least bit graceful is the kitchen."

"Yah!" Jaejoong smacks his arm, which of course leads to spilling.

"Look what you did."

"You did that!" Jaejoong fishes a fork out of the drawer and picks up what he can, the rest he wipes away with a finger.

"You smacked me!" Changmin fills the last liner and hits Jaejoong on the head lightly with the wooden spoon, not enough to hurt but that isn't the point (this time).

"My hair!" Jaejoong puts the cupcakes in the oven and crinkles his face in a way that makes Changmin laugh.

"Looks nice." Not like he's lying, Changmin thinks. He likes the way Jaejoong looks, Jaejoong and his too big eyes and his shy, shy smile.

There's little time to enjoy the view though, before he finds his face and hair smeared with leftover cupcake batter.

This means war.

"Go shower. You're gross." Jaejoong pushes Changmin towards the bathroom, insisting that his guest shower first, even if he is the worst guest ever.

"I'd be less gross if you didn't rub your armpit against me."

"Yeah, yeah. Hurry before you don't get to use the shower." Jaejoong fails at being threatening or serious, laughing through his words. "You brought the frosting?"

"Chocolate and vanilla." Changmin responds before closing the door.

Jaejoong goes to his dinner table, decides that he is a brave, big boy and will reach into the black hole that is Changmin's bag for Junsu's sake. He feels around, finally finds one can and fishes it out. There's something teal stuck to it -- a post-it. Thinking it's a note about the frosting (possible something snarky, knowing Changmin, or something like 'Buy more frosting, I ate this already.'), he peels it off, and reads it.

It's not snarky... not very, at least.

Hyung, I like you when you're hair is undone.
I think that means I like you at your worst.
Really, really like you.

//

Jaejoong takes his turn in the shower, comes out with his hair undone and glances at the clock.

Changmin beats him to talking, "We're going to be late."

"We won't be. I just have to blowdry, and straighten and-"

"Late. You're going to make us suffer Junsu's pouty face." Changmin frowns at the thought, crossing his arms over his chest and tapping his foot impatiently.

He 'convinces' Jaejoong into just blowdrying a bit, and Jaejoong insists on wearing a beanie, watching Changmin shrug and not look at him.

"Facepaint time." Jaejoong draws wannabe-parallel lines along Changmin's cheeks. "Smile more, this is supposed to be fun."

"Cheeeeeese."

"Well, this is definitely your worst." Jaejoong pauses, looking up at Changmin, "But I still like you now so I guess that means, I really, really, like you too."

Their first kiss is loud and messy like fingerpaint.

('Jae, you laughed into my mouth.'

'It's romantic!'

'No, it's like the opposite of romantic.'

'You have to stop watching so many movies.')
