the story of a brave preschooler kim jaejoong experiencing his first love.
monday
jaejoong meets him on the top of the slide at the tender age of five. the boy runs around with his soccer ball all the time, free as the wind.
hey. jaejoong says, blinking and smiling nervously at the boy. you wanna be friends?
the boy giggles and smiles at him.
i'm jaejoong.
the other boy opens his mouth and jaejoong thinks he's about to say something when he just tosses the soccer ball above jaejoong's head, having it bounce down the slide. doosh!
jaejoong pouts. why did you do tha--- ah!
the boy crawls over him and slides down, wheeee, going after his soccer ball before it lands in the sandbox.
tuesday
goodbye junsu, have fun.
jaejoong looks over as the boy waves goodbye to his parents, soccer ball tucked under his arm. so his name is junsu. he strolls into the room without a care in the world, excitedly plopping down in the seat next to him. jaejoong's eyes widen. h-hi!
hi! the boy yells back and gets to drawing, scribbling on his paper with red everywhere. he grabs the green marker next, scribbling all over the top of his sheet.
what's that? jaejoong looks over curiously.
an apple. junsu holds his drawing up proudly, earning a that's wonderful from their teacher who's making her way around each table. he giggles with glee, and puts it back down, raising an eyebrow at jaejoong's drawing. what's that?
it's a heart, jaejoong explains as he holds his drawing up, hiding behind it and only showing his eyes.
it's weird looking.
wha- hey!
junsu's already taking the green marker and drawing squiggly worms through it. now it's a rotten apple!
but it's not supposed to be -- heyyy! jaejoong tries moving away, falling out of his seat to escape junsu drawing on his face and arms with a marker.
it's scented! now you won't be stinky! junsu laughs and runs off with his drawing to to get a new sheet of paper.
wednesday
jaejoong comes up with the best plan ever. he brings his own ball to recess the next day, tucked under his arm the same way junsu always has it. okay now, wilbur, it's all on you today. he skips his way over to the sandbox, humming nonchalantly, sitting himself down and and making a little sand throne for it. oh, junsu!
junsu stops his in tracks, looking over curiously at jaejoong and his nice companion. hi...
this is my soccer ball, wilbur!
junsu gives him a weird look.
jaejoong holds wilbur up higher, above his head, nervous and waiting for junsu to say something.
that's not a soccer ball...
what? yes it is.
it's a volleyball.
jaejoong bites his lip to keep from pouting. oh! i must have brought the wrong one this morning. my soccer ball is still dirty from me playing with it so much
you play soccer?
from the way junsu's smiling, jaejoong decides the best way to go about answering is to nod.
let's go play! junsu grabs jaejoong's hand with his free one and drags him over to the soccer field. all jaejoong can do is smile like an idiot, at least until junsu lets go, leaving him.
huh?
you're the goalie.
huh? jaejoong looks behind him, seeing the big basket like thing he sees people kick soccer balls into.
ready?
ready?...
jaejoong learns how a soccer ball to the face feels.
at least junsu is nice enough to walk him to the nurse's office though. he had run over right away, poking him and yelling are you dead?
jaejoong holds his nose, groaning, feeling like there's one big bruise on his face.
you kind of suck at soccer.
i-i just wasn't ready! if we play again tomorrow i'll definitely be better.
you want to play again?
yeah?... why not?
junsu laughs at him. you're crazy. it makes jaejoong pout but he doesn't seem to notice, rather he goes on. you didn't take a shower yesterday?
huh?
junsu points at his face. marker marks.
i didn't want to be stinky, jaejoong answers sheepishly. it only makes junsu laugh even more.
everyone thinks you're a crazy jungle boy.
thursday
jaejoong's parents manage to convince him to wash his face, so he insists on being pouty all the way to school, mumbling, junsu's gonna think i'm stinky now! he doesn't think that stuff his sister sprayed on him in an effort to cheer him up was going to work at all. after waving goodbye sadly to his parents, he stomps his way into the playroom and plops himself down on a seat.
hey stinky.
he looks up to see junsu and shrinks away a little.
junsu notices. what's wrong, do i smell? junsu puts his sleeve to his nose and inhales deeply. nope.
you don't smell, jaejoong says, sighing as he props his head up on his heads.
junsu tilts his head, looking at jaejoong weirdly. what's wrong, stinky?
i don't wanna be stinky!
but i don't even know your name!
jaejoong flaps his mouth open and close. i told you that first time! on the slide.
i forgot! and you're not stinky today, junsu says and leans close, sniffing a few times. you smell like candy!
jaejoong pouts again. he hates sweets.
junsu hums, confused. he turns around, reaching into his backpack. want half of my cookie?
...okay. only because it's junsu though.
friday
jaejoong kicks the dirt at his feet, hands hidden behind him, nervous as he looks over to the sandbox. there junsu is, having the time of his life with his soccer ball, building a mini mote around it. he sniffs his shirt and approaches slowly. hi, junsu.
hi! you look messy.
jaejoong laughs nervously, nodding and stepping in to sit down next to junsu. yeah. i got you a gift.
a gift? junsu looks over excited.
jaejoong nods and brings his hands out from behind him, presenting a tennis ball to junsu. i got your soccer ball a friend. its name is penn.
junsu stares at it before slowly extending a hand to take it, cautious.
i had to run from a big, big dog to get this for you! jaejoong didn't care about everyone else calling it a puppy.
you're weird. junsu observes his new gift, then puts it next to his soccer ball. thanks, he's less lonely now.
they walk in together for arts and crafts time and even sit at the same table, next to each other.
hey, stinky, i got a gift for you too.
what is it?
candy.
jaejoong sniffs the gift. it feels really cold and doughy and he's not sure what it is. what kind of candy?
good candy only for people i like, junsu answers with a smile.
jaejoong's face lights up, and he's about to put it in his mouth before he hears ms. lee yell, jaejoong, no eating the play-doh!
hey! he looks back sternly at junsu.
junsu giggles, holding his stomach. i wasn't going to let you eat it. then he notices that his parents are here to pick him up, and he runs right passed jaejoong. jaejoong looks something like an abandoned puppy until junsu yells, bye jaejoong! see you on monday! from the door.
jaejoong mentally squees, not stinky!
