Spider Season

Jul 11, 2009 13:12

Over on her blog, Jane posted a link to this journal and all my spider stories. Which reminded me of the latest assaults on my tender sensibilities. The first encounter for the year with a GIANT HONKING INKBLOT OF DOOM was in my pantry at three in the morning. Why I was up at three in the morning doesn't factor in, but hopefully my shriek didn't ( Read more... )

This is what I hate the most about summer. I have panic attacks when I see spiders. We don't have ones as big as that, but we have brown recluses (I still have a scar on my leg from getting bit by one as a kid). I can't even imagine how I'd react to seeing one of those babies in that video. Even small spiders make me hit the ceiling. XD

These monsters have desensitized me to smaller spiders, so I can usually live and let live. The one I killed in my bedroom yesterday looked too much like a brown recluse, so I couldn't leave it alone.

By comparison to that, we don't have spiders here at all. The ugliest, biggest spider I've ever seen was a charmer next to that guy.

We also have little ones. I don't mind the little ones. There's a little one that lives above my bathroom window, and I leave it alone. These I mind.

Yes, they grow big here. Something about the tropical climate and the rich palmetto bug diet makes them thrive. Most of the Youtube videos were shot in Australia, where they get even bigger than here, but the shower video looked just like the one I killed.

Apparently in Australia, these giant huntsman spiders like to camp in the sun visors of your car and then drop in your lap when you flip the visors down and cause traffic accidents. I am never going to Australia.

cornerofmadness swears everything in Oz wants to kill you - if not by poison, then obviously by heart attack.
