I SAW EPIK HIGH LIVE! :DDDDDDDD
gah, it was sooo good. so happy that I decided to go. x]
as;glha;reghae;glhag;lhar;gh
dah. semi-coherent report of sorts.
--------------skip this part; it has a lot of preconcert stuff and rants and thoughts
so we get there around 6:30 or so, and we're driving on the outside and see this huge group of people lined up and we;re all like "oh snaps, parking garage gogogo, get in line". and ugh, $25 parking. lame. -_____-
btw, ikea has cheap and good food. me likey. :D it's like costco.
when we got there the line wasn't that long, and it started moving about 10 minutes after we got in line. and it moved pretty fast too, so I got in about 7:10-ish
------keep skipping; still preconcert stuff
the merchandise line crowd/mob was insane. I was trying to get through from one of the back corners of the crowd when I suddenly heard people screaming and rushing towards where I was. Turns out that Epik High appeared from some door behind me and was posing for some photos in from of some Verizon backdrop. but yeah, it kinda turned into a mob and people were just sticking their cameras in the air and trying to get a pic. (I think the tall press guys with the nice cameras were closest to EH, and everyone else was just pushing that that direction -____-) me and this girl next to me were kinda just stuck between the merchandise table and EH b/c we were trying to get towards the merchandise table which was in one direction, but there were all these people pushing us back so they could attempt to get some shot of EH (who was in the other direction)
oh, and girl that was climbing on my right shoulder to get a better pic, no apologies from me to you. (unless you mistook me for your ladder friend. then I kinda feel sorry for him/her) but it was kinda amusing to see how long you tried to stay on while I jiggled away. :P serious peoples, I was kinda bouncing and moving away from said girl and she was still trying to climb/lean/whatever on me. and no thanks because my right shoulder was kinda funky before and now I think I need bengay. whaaaat. I'm getting old. QQ
somehow managed inch person by person towards the merchandise table, and it probably took me 20 minutes to get there standing in a really crowded group of people. I feel bad for the people working the table because everyone was pushing in that direction, so their table kept moving backwards and pinning them against the wall, forcing them to call out every once in a while and make everyone step back so that they could breathe. I was about two rows of people from the table when the book albums sold out! D: and apparently tshirts sold out after I got my stuff. (wasn't planning to get a tshirt, but maybe I should have gotten one to auction off :'D)
but yeah, everyone was uncomfortably close and my bag got stuck between people -_____- not to mention that I was in a guy sandwich and the guy in front of me was pretending to partyboy his friend in front of him and yeah... awkwardness cuz some guys ass is rubbing into my tummy >___> oh, and I also apologize to the short and skinny asian girls that I tried to help get out. but i think i figured out why guys like short and skinny asian girls. they fit under one arm. XD
anyways, managed to go into the merchandise crowd, get a bandana, towel, and pin (and the lost map CD!), and then get back out alive. (also by sticking some short asian girl in from of me and ushering people out of the way XD)
oh, and verizon people were handing out red glowsticks. whoo, free stuff!
-----------------opening; skip this part because it's not actually EH
Far East Movement
they came out in spacesuits and had this whole skit going. their set was about 30 minutes, but they were pretty good at getting everyone hyped. people were dancing in the aisles and whatnot. XD and they sound a lot better live. I forget how many songs they played, but I think there were minor technical difficulties (if you count the videos not being full screen as a TD :'D). They played 'Girls on the dance floor' and 'fetish' but not 'lowridin' or 'dance like michael jackson.' and they threw a pair of blue (hi-top chucks? but prolly not chuck but some expensive designer stuff) and shirts and cds out into the crowd. I think one of them was trying to throw into the balcony level, but the shirt kinda just landed in the middle of the main floor. they also had pretty good interaction with the audience. :D
uh, the event MC said stuff. and apparently tried something in korean but failed?
but yeah, his stage name is Dumbfounded?
Kero One
uh, his stuff was good, but it was rather mellow-y. (kinda like nujabes) he didn't really work up the crowd like FM did, and didn't interact as much with the audience. towards the end, his set seemed to just drag on, and he didn't MC as much between songs, so sometimes it just seemed like song after song after song. but yeah, people kinda showed a lack of respect towards him (idk maybe it was too mellow and everyone was just impatient and "we want epik high D: now") and even though the event MC wanted everyone to stand up during his set, everyone sat down towards the end.(must save energy for epik high! :D)
anyways, his lyrics and stuff were pretty good, but the overall sound was a bit too mellow compared to everything else, so in short>> didn't work out at the EH concert. :/ but the guy playing guitar/keyboard/drums/everything for him seemed pretty cool.
myk came out in the middle of kero one's set and they did one song together. and someone (tukutz?) popped out in the curtains during kero one's set and *cue audience screaming*
oh yeah, his set lasted at least 40 minutes. I think it ended around 9:20.
------------------- actual Epik High! :D
so Tukutz and Beatbox DG came out first, and DG did some of his stuff. pretty impressive! ;D
and then Tukutz started playing the intro of Sexyback (the JT one, what else -____-) but then suddenly paused it before it started going into the song. Then DG started beatbox-ing and doing some parody(?) rapping to sexyback (I think he said I'm bringing fashion back?) but yeah, it was really cute. XD and DG made this very engrishy-intro and then suddenly stopped in the middle, turned to tukutz, asked something in korean, and then turned back around to finish it.
something along the lines of:
dg: hallo. somethingsomethingiforget. welcome to map the soul concert in- ???
(pause, find tukutz)
dg: :D san francisco!
basically had to double check the city name. XD but it was amusing. x]
uh and then tablo finally walked out and everyone started going crazy and stuff. following him was mithra jin and it got crazier(if that's possible?). I forget where myk and the keyboardist guy came out. (was it ceo allen? idk, but allen was at the merchandise booth. XD)
-started off with cipher (6)
-believe (6)
-and then went into top gun! (6)
mc1, intros in korean (lol, I somehow understood it was intros XD)
-the future (4)
it was awesome. :D
-flow (4).
ladsga;glarrg;lhag;lihag;lahrgae;lhg TOTALLY WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS ONE TO BE PLAYED LIVE EVER and totally didn't expect to see this live in my life. asr;ihgar;glihaeg;lhareglerahg IT WAS SOOOOO AMAZING. even though it felt shortened (I think they took out some of emi hinouichi's parts/the chorus. but not the ending. yes, the ending. you know it.) everyone was pretty much screaming and going batshit crazy by the end. and tablo did the crazy laugh thingy too! aw;gliha;glhag;lahg;laihsg;aliehgael;gihsl;gihag;alwiehg. stfu gaiz, i get to spazz because i like flow and it's badass-ery and i wasn;t expecting it a;sljfa;ligha;wgliha;lsghzs;ldgha;lgihae;gh
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJZ1iEugGfc -what's even better was the mc afterwards. tablo said that they couldn't hear their headset feed thingy (idk what you call it), so they couldn't hear the background beat thingy, and they were pretty much relying on the crowd to know where they were. but asdlfkhasg;lasg;lkkhag;alga;gkh. that means the ending of flow was pretty much done without knowing the beat. aw;glaerlhag;lhdg;aldgsadlghag;lh.
**i kinda lost track of most of the things after this, but something are still in general order, some aren't
-map the soul (korean version) (6)
- (some song, I think it was from a waaaay earlier album) myk played acoustic guitar to it for the beginning, and then towards the end, tablo said to speed it up, and they went into the (regular?) version
then tablo, mithra left the stage (i forget if tukutz left though. i think he left and then came back befoe table and mithra did)
mky did a little solo stage and performed 4-5 songs, all in english.
and for one song, he was rapping and playing guitar at the same time. XD (idk, but i haven;t seen a lot of people doing that combo yet)
-then myk started into 'follow the flow' (3)
then tablo and mithra came back out and joined in to finish the song
afterwards during the mc, tablo was like 'myk, i was in the bathroom when i heard you starting and i had to run back to the stage. dude, i wan't even done with the bathroom. XD'
another mc by tablo (ok tablo did most of the mcs that i remember b/c it was in english. i think mithra did two in korean though). he said something about being a musician and a translator and how he translated mostly everything for the map the soul book album (thank you!). and then how he also programmed the first version of the website, so he's also a programmer. and then he said that he just wants to continue being a musician.

if you have problems with your mind, you go see a shrink
if you have problems with your soul... there's only music
---second half of the show
tablo mc:
tablo: so this is the second half. we want you guys to have more fun, be less serious, enjoy yourselves more. I mean, the first half was suppossed to be dead serious guys. and you were all happy and cheering and clapping. seriously guys, what were you thinking?
audience: yay! wait. :/ ...?
tablo: nah, you know I'm just kidding right? but still enjoy yourselves for this half.
(actually not exact, but something along those lines. XD whatever, I love you tablo <3)
tablo: so the next song was written for some friends who left us
audience: awwwww
tablo: it's ok
audience: hahaha
tablo: wait, no, it's not ok. but after it happens a couple times, you know how to deal with it. and that's why we wrote this song. (and it lead into one)
-one (5). myk was on electric guitar, so it was an acoustic-y version of one. (i think? apparently they performed an acoustic version of one in japan, so I'm guessing this was the acoustic version too?) but yeah, it aws pretty amazing. as.dlgha;erlga;rlgiha;dsglha;glhieg :D
and someone else's fancam of one...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Enlj1KDPKyw&feature=player_embeddedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuxWojHjCis&feature=channel -1 min, 1 sec (5.5)
-fallin' (5.5)
-girl rock. (4)
tukutz did the korean parts in the chorus. XD it was cute
-love, love, love (4)
some girls flew up from LA and had giant pink signs that said "let's get fuck'd up" and "can i suck your (something in korean, but you know what to fill in the blank. i heard it was pepper/chili.)"
so during one of the mcs, tablo was like, "yeah, I see these signs out there. and I understand 'let's get fuck'd up' but being bilingual, I personallly (long pause) tukutz would like to see a lot more of that" XD
-map the soul (international ver) (6)
tablo said last song. everyone went D:
-fly. (3)
as;lga;glhaglh everyone was bouncing and kinda singing along. :D
---encore
-free music (6)
-fan (4)
tukutz did his dance. x] boys and girls say oh oh oh!
other stuff:
-tukutz and some of the others in the back were taking pictures of the crowd. XD so cute.
-everyone was standing for Epik High's portion of the concert. why would you not.
-pretty orderly for most of the concert. people stayed in their seats. (assinged seats, so yeah, but it wasn't completely full...)
-but! tablo kinda jumped off the stage at one point and security wen't kinda crazy. and then after that, people got off their seats and kinda mobbed the front of the stage. EH went around the stge hi-fiving people. x]
-I love average asian people's heights. because I am above average. :D serious, if you're over 5'9, you have an unbelievable advantage at any concert that is predominantly asian. XD (but I'm not 5'9 >___>)
-it took forever to get out of the parking garage. at least the other people in the car were snarky and the car was kinda tuned and vibrated. vibrating car = massage. 'tis excellent to have a vibrating car massage after a standing concert. and all of our ears were kinda ringing from the concert, so we couldn't hear vtec kicking in. XD
-I realized I'm not giving mithra and myk enough love in this report. but myk was there in a lot of the songs! and mithra was kinda running around with tablo towards the end. :'D
(oh yeah, when I say cute, it doesn;t always mean physically cute like some cute guy/girl. it might mean the way they acted or something about the moment XD idk really. it's just if something seems cute to me XD but srs, hello kitty'd-out integs are cute)
