I'm jumpin on Bobsy's Megrahi bandwagon.

Didn't seriously think I could resist a rant on this did you?

So, I think the general public feeling at the moment is what the fuck? When I first heard they were considering releasing him I went on a huge rant in the kitchen, shouting at the radio and everything. I do this a lot by the way. I have ( Read more... )

Yes! All the stuff about it maybe not being him! I had heard that when he was first convicted n I totally think that was part of the reason he was released! :p

Right. I apologise. I mentioned the healthcare argument in passing when it occurred to me while writing this and my opinion wasn't fully explained. I am well aware that it is only the conservative parties involved that are against the idea and it was them that I was referring to due to a tendency during that campaign to spread misinformation about our government and healthcare system, using arguments that were not relevant in order to undermine the concept of reform. I won't go into it all here ( ... )

There is a guy on the morton forum who's son worked on the case as a lawyer (I know...seems like a tedious link but we all know the posters second name etc and it all matches).

According to him the evidence against Megrahi is anything but conclusive. In fact many now see it as being Iran and not even Libya who were involved and apparently evidence not used at the original trial will also back this up. I think that is why he was allowed to go home, for fear of what would be brought up if an appeal went through as he would have most likely been released.

And I also believe had he died here in jail the scenes in Libya when he body was taken back would have been far more worse than the ones we have seen of him arriving back home.

Yeah, I heard that it was was supposed to be Iran too. I think that despite him not being proved innocent the Lybians weren't welcoming home a terrorist, they were welcoming home a free man. Sure some of them might have been nutballs and been praising him for his supposed involvement in the bombing, but yeah if he had died, it would have been like he was some kind of martyr or something.

Yeah that doesn't surprise me at all. I doubt the scenes in Libya were because people agreed with what happened at Lockerbie, it seems far more likely that he's being welcomed home as someone wrongly accused.

It's definitely a huge cover up.
