I don't know how long this Rating has been posted. A very, very long time, I know that. I think Buffy may still have been on the air (and not in endless reruns). 7 years? More? This rating was in the archives when I first read it, and it was certainly before I turned 17.

Let me quote the pertinent paragraph:

Visiting the LA area a few months ago & seeing all the signs & radio spots for vampire movies & TV shows really drove this whole craze home for me. If Twilight's popularity didn't start the whole thing, it at least caused it to reach critical mass and begin self-sustaining.

I don't think Twilight started it...remember the Anne Rice frenzy of oh...fifteen years ago? Related: The Garlic Years.

Full disclosure: I am a fan of Anne Rice's books (pre-Memnoch, heh) as well as Twilight (while fully acknowledging how ridiculous and bad the writing is).

Okay, that article was actually kind of interesting. So, while hearing about 3 new Vampire media productions in 1-2 weeks seemed like a vampire feeding frenzy (heh), that's maybe not the best way to look at it. Clumps in the data are perfectly normal, statistically speaking. It's more like a steady flow of vampires: a lifeline, if you will. Un-lifeline. Whatever.

Full disclosure: Though I tend to prefer their less-popular titles, I still do play White Wolf games. -_- My only real experience with Vampire is the 2004 PC RPG, though if you like that sort of game, I'd heavily recommend it on atmosphere & storyline alone.

I've never really read Anne Rice and don't have an opinion on her. Regarding Twilight, I found this angry lady's site fairly early, so that probably didn't help much.
