This post is for the Ladies Only, unless you're a male who is curious about the mysteries of menstruation, in which case I'm not going to stop you from reading the rest but you probably will learn things you didn't really want to know. Heck, some of the ladies may read it and find out things they didn't really want to know, but that is the hazard ( Read more... )

I started using a Diva Cup a 3 or so cycles ago myself. I love mine for much the same reason you love yours. At first, when I was learning to use it, insert/removal felt like a giant event, but it was only twice a day, instead of 4 times a day with my pads (I never had luck with tampons). Now it's easypeasy.

The only trouble I've found is that I seem to have leakage problems on planes. I don't know if it's just bad insertion beforehand (I do get nervous before travel) or air pressure or whatever, but it's been consistent because I've been traveling a lot lately, and usually during my period.

On the other hand, I'm about to spend a week in Japan on my period, and I'm dreading it a lot less with my Diva Cup than if I had to rely solely on pads ^_^

I have heard about some folks having problems with air travel; seeing as how I'll be on a plane on Friday, we'll see if I have similar problems.

Obviously those of you practicing FAM birth control methods are more versed in these sorts of things, but you probably only have a vague idea of the answer to my first question of how much blood you actually expel.

Hahaha, this is dead on target.

Also, I might be interested in the large LadyCup... Let me do a bit more research on sizing?

Absolutely. Might I recommend this post to assist in your research? It is a post made of win.

EDIT: HTML fail

I was JUST checking that post. :D

Ah, looks like the 'large' is intended for women with kids. Presumably, they mean women who have given birth vaginally. Bah.

I probably need a longish cup, tbh -- my cervix is generally so high as to be barely in reach if it's in reach at all.

What made you change away from the Diva, if I may ask?

"Large" is also for women 30+, regardless of children. *has a large* ^_^

I'm glad you pointed out the bit about the lighter cycles... I had heard the same thing happening when switching to washable cloth pads, and it had been attributed to the "natural fiber versus plastic" bit, but I was never able to quite put it into words to explain it to those who were interested.

Thank you for this post... I've been considering a cup, but I've been considering cloth pads for longer... It will depend on how things work out with them before I try using a menstrual cup. I have no problem with the Squick Factor... I'm just tired of buying pads... Not to mention that the quality of the Best Pad I've Found has gone down noticeably in the last year or so.

And I can totally answer all of those "knowing my body" questions... Though I've always heard the amount in tablespoons as opposed to milliliters, so nyeah. XD
