I once picked up a copy of Catcher in the Rye from the local library. I didn't see what the big deal was, either. I found Holden's manner of speaking irritating.

Totally. I didn't enjoy it, purely because of that. Also the angst. I've read a lot of books that deal with someone who has teenage angst that are a lot better than Catcher in the Rye.
