at least it's not the olympics...
speaking of which, lozren pointed out something very interesting to me the other day... did you know olympic park is built on top of a buried pile of toxic waste? bet we didn't tell the rich tourists that when they came over for the olympics in 2000...

haha. it's buried on several nasties, actually. homebush used to be a brick pit (ie, clay mine), which is why there's all those big holes anywhere. well, used to be. now they've been replaced with other holes, such as Stadium Australia and the Super Dome.

I think after that (or was it before?) it was also Sydney's largest abattoir. So lots more polluting nasties.

It really is a wonder they managed to find native frogs there!

All in all though, I'm still not convinced Homebush has been improved all that much over the past 10 years... it's kinda gone from run-down-ex-industrial-slosh to super-modern-high-tech-nameless-faceless-placeness-"architecture." I know what I think's more authentic...
