so this BRILLIANT friend of mine just got accepted to a university in New York, which he was unbelievably excited about, and wouldn't stop talking about. Now this guy, you have to understand, has the biggest passion for Nuclear physics that one could possible ever imagine. hey that is crazy, is he a citizen?
cause that is wrong, he should appeal cause I imagine that is some kind of human rights violation or at least a statute violation of the canadian charter, that says something about everyone having access to education, you should go to the news about it and I will talk with my dad cause he is pakistani and has helped so many people came to canada to live and study so he is pretty hip to the immigration and rights of immigrant stuff.
yeah send me and e-mail if you want me to do anything
oh it's jamil

i'm assuming you're talking about zaid! and that is the worst thing ever, i remember talking with him about that in bio last year. i really think that something should be done about this. i don't know if it will necessarily accomplish anything, but at least bring to light the fact that this is happening. maybe others who have had this same problem would then come forward and some sort of ball could be put into motion.

but stuff like this makes me so.... sad? angry? dissapointed? you know, all those bad things. you could start by writing a letter to the editor of the free press (not that they will necessarily publish it, but if several people did) also the sun is often pretty good about covering local news stories. failing that there's always our local set of newspapers, you know the herald, the lance and those ones. let me know what's up and i'll see if there's anything i can do to help because zaid is too awesome to be denied.

hey i know, we could overthrow this white supremacist system. i'll bring the gasoline.

er, anyways- u.s. officials are total dicks, and as canadians we don't have much recourse with them, but which canadian bureaucrats specifically are preventing him from studying here? is it the universities themselves, or the rcmp/csis/whatever? some kind of campaign could be mounted.

I sat down with him today and asked him all your questions (if he's a citizen, who's preventing him, etc) and he was really hesitant to answer anything. he told me that he will apply for citizenship in february which is when he is legally allowed to, but wouldn't tell me who's preventing him specifically, or any specific details. he just keeps saying that its because he's iraqi and because of his fathers ties, and that its the government whos trying to stop him. he keeps telling me that getting other people involved will only make it worse, and that since he wont be studing it for a long time anyway, not to do anything about it. which is kinda sketchy, and makes me really unsure about what i should be doing. i really think this is something worth fighting for, or at least bringing into the light, but at the same time, i can't force my help on someone who doesnt want it. eeks, this is frustrating
