Enviroblog on why Ethanol is evil. I don't always agree with their positions, but I'm with them all the way on this one. There's even some things I didn't know in this, like ethanol creating more smog.
The linked article mentioned all those things at least obliquely, and also discussed increased smog, and increased damage to engines, and other things. Also increasing global warming, but I tend to shy away from that one because the other evils of ethanol are enough to say NO, no matter one's global warming position, so there's no need to bring it up!
Global warming is such a hard thing to pin down because it's not like the earth has always had one temperature - it has fluctuated to points higher and lower than where we sit now. Does that mean I don't think man isn't having an effect on the environment? No. But it does mean that I don't think it's as easy to judge as some non-climatologists like to say.
And I knew about the engine damage. I mean anything that is less viscous and reduces mileage that much has to be doing mechanical harm to something not really designed to run off it.
But seriously, how ostensibly educated folks could decide that something is better because it's not a petroleum product without delving into the research is mind boggling - especially because these people of influence can sway the even less educated masses.
