Why did the turtle...?

I was driving to work this morning and came within a tire's width of driving over a TURTLE in the middle of the road.  It was a big turtle, too--at least as long as my tire is wide!  It was a moderately busy road; I hope he made it across OK

You know, I had that a few weeks back my last day in NC. My MIL had to swerve to avoid a turtle crossing the road. Thankfully he was almost all the way across and we're pretty sure he made it.

J and I had to swerve to avoid a groundhog on the I-70 once. As did the car next to us. Thankfully we split on either side of him and the cars behind us were far enough back he made it, but that was one determined groundhog. And they're big enough that hitting one would have made a royal mess of my car with it's chin spoiler.

Glad you missed him. I know I would feel bad about hitting a critter.
