The whole world was glistening. The rain that had fell from the night before left shining moisture droplets on the canopy of trees and leaves. The air was fresh and clean on Pan's back as he swooped through the air and bounced on a large and fluffy cloud. Today, like everyday, was a new beginning.
Pan's blue eyes roved around the sparkling sea gleefully then he vaulted off into sky like a spring then dived straight down onto the forest. His feet landed on soft moss and he took off in a run.
The lush Neverland forest had tall trees that towered over him like watchful guardians as he finally came to a stop and edged around an oak tree.
There was deep silence except for the rustle of the wind. Pan peered around the tree and then there was a loud swishing sound and he ducked. An arrow struck where his head was once before.
A young girl materialized as if from thin air and moved stealthily disappearing and appearing again like a figure in a thick fog. She muttered something then pulled out the arrow from the tree trunk. Pan grinned mischievously and moved sideways into some shrubbery watching her.
The Indian girl with burnished skin stood tall and proud her face was painted with fierce blues and reds and her eyes were dark ink pools of black. Her long black was braided and her ears were pricked as if listening for secrets from the wind.
There was a slight rustle and she unsheathed her knife, posed.
"Ha!" Pan jumped from behind and she flung the knife where it struck just an inch from his cheek.
She uttered a small shriek when she saw him.
"Pan!"
Peter erased the surprised look from his face and swaggered confidently towards her. "Almost got me that time, Tiger Lily."
"You shouldn't do that." She said concerned. "I could have hurt you."
"Never!" Said Peter hovering above her and tugging on her braid playfully.
Tiger Lily laughed and beckoned him closer the blue beads of her dresses clacked and swished with her body movement as she circled him. "Come fight me like a real man, Pan."
"Man!" Peter spat with disgust. "I'm no man! I am an animal!" He made a fierce face at her his freckles standing out clearly distinctive on his nose.
Tiger Lily punched him squarely in the stomach.
Peter recoiled then flew forward pushing into her so hard that she fell backwards on a hill, but not before she grabbed him by the arm to make sure if she went down he would go with her.
They rolled onto the both squealing and dirty before Tiger Lily fell on her back and Pan fell on top of her. She was sure by now she was all muddied and Pan was out of breath his chest heaving. She shoved him off her and he fell by her side.
"Unfair." She said. "You obviously cheated."
Pan in response gave a lazy grin and pushed back his brown hair from his dirty forehead. His face softened though, possibly with affection and he leaned close.
"You have a smudge there." He said simply and wiped some dirt off her cheek.
Annoyed with him already Tiger Lily grabbed his hand to jerk him away but some how he only ended up closer and their faces were only inches apart. An eternity past, their mouths wet and part, so close and yet...
Slowly, Pan pulled away as if unsure and trying warily to avoid some kind of dangerous borderline. He was kind enough though to pull her up from the ground and her eyes filled up with pain.
She laughed nervously. "Thank you."
Peter made a mock bow to her. "Anything for you my princess."
And then as soon as that he was gone leaving the scent of mint swirling in the air. Tiger Lily stood there for a bit as if stunned her eyes looking upward towards the sky and her mouth uttering an unspoken syllable.
