I'm so excited for you Kett! Kyle and I were talking about how Philly kind of shifted and morphed and it's still PHILLY, but it's very different than it was 2 years ago. If you're staying west my only requirement is that you visit us on the east coast often, and I'll try to do the same.

Nishat mentioned that you might still be coming to Portland for Stumptown?

Yeah your arch enemy is a total douche. Ian has been complaining about his kick starter thing as well. I think it's so awesome that you went to grad school and moved west and are writing and teaching. I mean I don't know you super well obviously but it's awesome to see someone want to do something and do it. My friend Phaedra lives in Oakland...have you ever crossed paths with her? It seems like moving there could be really awesome. Sometimes I think maybe that's where I'll go as opposed to Colorado, but we'll see. Anyway keep up the good work!

Avalon,

Yeah dude, thanks for the encouragement.I haven't met your friend as of yet, but really my two years here have been 95% school, and my social life outside of that has been pretty limited to Lacy D and my housemates. I have high hopes for meeting new folks and making new friends next year. You should definitely at least come out to the bay and check it out if you haven't spent a lot of time here.

And yeah, that dude sucks. I don't particularly like getting stuck on the negativity, but I was so pissed when I saw it got funded that it felt good to vent a little, even if it's to the 4-6 people who read this thing. Anyways, YOU keep up the good work. I like your illustrations and was just telling Lacy how if I hadn't ended up moving I had been planning on organizing drawing parties and wanted to include you. Do you have a website?

it's pretty out of date, but yeah, my website is avalonclare.com
i flew into oakland once (my only trip to california) but the wedding i went to was in rohnert park (near santa rosa) and i didn't spend any time in sf or oakland. so i wanna go!

DUDE! i totally wrote him a "FUCK OFF" facebook message about his kickstarter! i'm even friends with him! but seriously, it made me sooooo mad that he kept harrassing a bunch of his friends about reposting it and donating money! after the THIRD personal message he sent me about it (the first two i ignored... GET THE HINT!) i flipped! i told him he was taking advantage of his friends and to GET A FUCKING JOB and pay for his own traveling!

There are some established, well-known indie artists who have been using kickstarter to fund their trips and I think it's bullshit. It's as if nobody can fathom the idea of having to front their own money for their projects anymore: I understand in some cases that people don't have the money, but if you're trying to, like, travel Europe for a month just cause, you're probably someone who has disposable income. If you're trying to print your book and it's too expensive, then yeah, using kickstarter as a preorder service is a fine idea. I think there is wayyyyy too much advantage taken of that website.
