.....today I got offered a job that will pay me about two hundred dollars a day. It's an extremely tough job and it has absolutly nothing to do with theatre or dance...I will have to travel all the time...What the fuck do I do! I mean I want to keep doing theatre stuff and all, but 200 a day is a ton of money. Maybe I could do it for a year or two ( Read more... )

This is what I would do. Go talk to Molly, and Susan, e-mail teachers from Austin if you can. Talk to members of the LSU Theatre Faculty. Ask the flat out, for their blunt opinion on your future in both.

Or do what you said, do it for a year or two, save up enough money that you can take a year off to travel and audition. On one hand, you would have the freedom to spend that year going to as many auditions as you like. On the other, would this job still give you the time to take the necessary technique classes to be ready for auditioning for a year?

ignore the money.
we're too young to worry about providing a nest egg for ourselves. all we should be doing is paying the bills.

what do you WANT to do?

I was in a very similar situation in the fall. I almost got a job that would have solved all my financial problems, but would have meant the end (well, MASSIVE change) to my artistic endeavors.

I was very upset about it. I could NOT give up theatre and film. Somehow I had always found a way to stay alive and keep the art in my life and I figured there had to be a way to do that in the future.

I decided to go to school, because it would likely get me a better job at some point, would bring in some changes to my life, wouldn't be the end of the art in my life and would get me money to move out on my own. I look at school as an excuse NOT to get that kind of job for another 4 years or so.

I couldn't give up theatrics. At least not yet.

Theatre will always be there.

And that's a shit load of money.
That's all I'm saying.
