The sun is out and I took a few photos this morning to show the contrast between yesterday and today. (BTW, thank you for all the kind remarks you all made about the one, especially, of the tree. I love that photo.)
The first is of the same tree that was shrouded in fog yesterday, which I posted.
(All these photos are 'fresh off the grill' in that I don't PhotoShop them or anything. I just shoot them and then post them. Actually, I shoot several and post only a couple, those I like the best or that tell some sort of story.)
The second photo is of Mount Davidson, the highest point in San Francisco. I used to live right below the summit and had nice views of the ocean (from my den and balcony) and the Bay (from my living room). You may be able to make out a large cross on top. It is a HUGE concrete cross, maybe 100 feet tall, I can't recall, exactly. Anyway, it was made famous in the film, "Dirty Harry" where a scene was shot with Harry pursuing the bad guy.
The top of the hill, with the cross, was owned by the City. A few years ago, a group of people got together and sued the city, accusing them of promoting 'Christianity'. Never mind that the name San Francisco means 'Saint Francis' and the entire history of the city for over 300 years, from founding, is rooted in the Catholic tradition.
The oldest structure in San Francisco, touted as a major tourist attraction (not on a par with Alcatraz, of course) is Mission Dolores, the first Catholic mission in the area, dating from something like 1750.
Anyway, the lawsuit prevailed and - amazingly enough and, by some strange coincidence - a group, most of them who were parties to the lawsuit (Hmm) - wound up 'purchasing' the hilltop from the City for a pittance.
They are required to maintain the park there, though and are not allowed to make any alterations. Living in San Francisco is quite weird. Anyway, here's the photo:
