...by ryvaendell. So, what's in my name? It's a lame story, and unmercifully long-winded because I'm in a mood to bloviate.

Xanthaine - pronounced zan-THANE. No, it has nothing to do with Piers Anthony. The name was my 3rd major online incarnation in a crappy little chat called TheGathering (oh, excuse me, Tee-Gee Chat as they want to be known now). See, first their was Starfyre, a name I invented for some abortive attempts at IRL RP to reflect my interest in astronomy and magic wielding, intelligent, but wimpy, yet still awesome, characters. Then a few people had a little row with the administration and I stuck my neck out to protest people being held accountable to non-existent rules, and I got banned.

A short time later I returned as ExileX (yeah, I guess I was a munchkin 10 years or so ago). Things are groovy for a few more months. The administration of said site, despite banning me, actually did tacitly acknowledge my point was legit and posted some rules. They were pretty strict (i.e. no profanity), but hey, it's their site. Anyway, things go smoothly and we're just enjoying ourselves, RPing in a very much non-mainstream room. Then another flare up with the administration happened. Unknown to me at the time, apparently some people were rabble rousing in one of the mainstream rooms. Anyway, I protested again, this time because we couldn't get any explanation from the adminstration, and people were basically being insta-banned permanently with no warning. And from our perspective, at the time it wasn't clear any rules were being violated (i.e. no one was spewing profanity that we could see, at least at first, until some people decided to engage in a little civil disobedience). Anyway, despite being polite (well, except invoking Godwin's law, but I didn't use any actual rude language), I was banned again.

And hence was born Xanthaine, a name I invented solely because it began with the letter X, and the syllabels sounded kind of cool. That's the end of my story. These episodes were also the reason I created Shards. I wanted to provide a site for my friends where the rules would be sane and geared toward unrestricted creative expression (as in, they basically boil down to don't be a griefer, and don't do things that waste my money). And more importantly, I wanted to prove that you could administer a chat site sanely, as in actually explain your actions, and respond to objections instead of silencing naysayers with a ban.

That said, I defy you meme! By neglecting to tag another generation, I will stop your infection of other minds. Hah!
