There are some absolutely outstanding nurses out there. There are some outstanding hospital administration people out there. Unfortunately there are also all the rest

That goes beyond frustrating and into the realm of downright infuriating. I'm confident that you, Lor, and your mom are more than capable of making the nurses see that it's really in their best interest to give your dad the correct amount of medication, though.
What idiots, and that's putting it nicely.
I've been out of the loop lately, but I really am sorry to hear that your dad's not in the best of health. I'm sending good-thoughts and well-wishes for a speedy recovery and competent medical assistants! It must be a really trying time for you and your family, so I hope you guys are holding up under the emotional stress, too. I know I'm not a very close friend, but if there's anything I can do to help, please let me know. *hugs* I love you, Jeni, and I'm really looking forward to seeing you again, whenever that may be!
Yeah. It's actually harder now that he's out of the hospital..'cause they'll say something like that in a checkup and we don't even have time to do any damage control. So we call mom and tell her..and she calls dad and tells him he needs to take his pain medicine
( ... )
...oof. Sounds like you guys need a mailing list. :P
I'm glad your father was able to get the surgery he needed and is now on the mend. If he's frustrated with the down time you could suggest that he use the time to get caught up on things he's always meant to do...like that great big list-of-books that everyone has the best of intentions to read but never gets around to. You could also try asking for his opinion when it comes to narrowing down the photos you took this winter...the additional information will swing the annoying balance you got from Bryna's and Andrew's opinions. :P and if all else fails, try nudging him in the direction of websudoku.com.
*hugs* It would be a lot of fun to visit you! I'll have to nudge Ryan about it in the near future, though I think most of his next few weekends will be spent visiting grad schools.

I heard a lot of stories like this from way back when my mom was still an RN.
