But popular votes directly effect the electoral votes. And just 5% of the nation's popular vote gets you federal funding in the next election. That's very important, because most (if not all) "third parties" use private funding not public or cooperate funding. Also a majority of every one who is not either republican or democrat favor "trickle down" voting. Which splits the electoral vote points of any given state based on the percentage of the popular vote a candidate recieves. For example: If bush got fifty percent of Delaware's votes and Kerry also got fifty percent they would split our three electoral votes, and therefore each recieve 1.5 electoral votes. I think that's much more fair. Some also advocate the abolition of the electoral college and wish to base the election solely on popular vote. I am for either suggestion. But the elctoral college as it is is outdated. /rant
