I was rather happy that I managed to remember which chakras were which. It reminded me a bit of last fall/winter ( Read more... )

Yea, I did while I was in AZ and about two or three weeks ago I tried the meditation again. I keep running into a barrier when I try to think of something I love. The visualizations don't come anywhere near as clearly as they did earlier this year. However, I've been listening to a guided imagery tape that my mom got at the library about once a day so hopefully it's just a matter of time and I'll be able to visualize like I used to.

Yoga sounds like something that would be good for you, as it gets different parts of the self working together. Also, it emphasizes getting all of the chakras working together - unlike the Western approach that typically wants only the "upper" chakras and dislikes the "lower" ones. Chakras show the body is like a house; you have to have a firm foundation and a comfortable ground flow, you can't simply live upstairs all of your life! I know, becauise I used to be bad about wanting to live upstairs only for a long time - to live in the head and the world of ideas, and neglect the body.

Take care, and keep up the good work. You mention getting in touch with your heart - when you do, I suspect you'll find that you're heart has been trying to get in touch with you as well. That's how it was for me. :)

Interesting about the chakras. I'd hazard a guess that I'm stuck in the sacral chakra.. the one dealing with emotions though it's been suggested (or maybe it's more like it's been downright stated as such) that I overthink things so I could be wrong. Mostly the things i do to hurt myself involve revisiting past failures and sometimes things I"ve done unintentionally that hurt others. But I think I'm getting better at not beating myself up over it.

Far as the heart wanting to get in touch with me, I had thought it was a one-way thing.. that I have to seek out my heart. How did you get from being stuck in your head all the time to getting down into your heart?

Meditation helps. There are two kinds I have used. One is the Zen meditation of emptyness, where I simply witness all that arises. This helped me to see I am not my thoughts, because my thoughts arise and depart on their own - yet I remained. The same is true with emotions, feelings, and sensations, The second is a Tibetan Buddhist for of meditation called "Tonglen", which I learned from Books and CD's by Pema Chödrön. I would recoemnd Zen first, to let go. In Tonglen, you breathe in pain and suffering, and breath out love and joy - the opposite of what most meditation people teach. But the point here is a growing the heart of compasion, and giving away with no strings attached. In this it is simular to the give-away prayer in the Christian tradition, where anything you would ever want you pray be given away to ( ... )
