Surely it would have been easier and more cost effective for the corp to courier you the contract and include a video of someone telling you the legalese. (Or a teleconference. Whatever. The Swiss gave us CERN; surely they can manage a video conference.)

I mean yeah, frequent flyer points are fun, and I'm sure it was a great chance to work or read or sleep or whatever you prefer to spend your flight time hours doing. But such inefficiency challenges even the American tax system in scale...

Signing the contract in Switzerland actually binds him to Swiss laws. As I've recently discovered, the laws of the land where you sign the contract supercede any clause stating "I agree to be bound by the laws of country X".

If he signed a swiss contract in the UK, he can still shelter behind UK (and EU) labour laws. Now, however, he's truly owned by the gnomes of Zurich...

Fair enough.

It seems a little archaic and inefficient to not be able to put in a clause that says "I the undersigned agree to be bound by Swiss law first and foremost," but I will accept that it just doesn't work that way. :)
