There were flashes of long forgotten memories - things he didn’t do and things he did. His prom date was there, laughing about something he no longer found amusing. Next came the dead people, some he knew and others he didn’t. His trip down memory lane was painfully boring until she appeared.
His Fred. Sweet, innocent Fred. The girl all the boys wanted to deflower. He remembered the day he’d caught her in her dad’s barn, making out with one of her classmates. Back then it had embarrassed him but now it enraged him as the voice inside told him Fred was his, and only his.
When the room began to shift, the voice became louder and more persistent. Everything turned to black and then he pushed his eyes open and was greeted by her.
“What did you do?” he growled, his hand shooting up to grab her neck.
Fred was quicker and grabbed his arm. “Settle down,” she said before smiling at him. “I made you into a wonderful creature, Nick.”
His brow furrowed and a moment later he finally noticed things were different. Everything around him was clearer and he had a hunger for blood and the woman beside him. “Vampire,” he growled.
“Very good,” she whispered as her fingers raked through his hair. “And I’m your Sire. That means you have to be a good little boy for me.”
Nick nodded in understanding. Fred had explained vampires to him when she told him to Pylea. Plus, he felt more of a connection to her now than he had when they were both alive. He knew he would follow her to the ends of the Earth now and they had forever to do it. “I love you,” he said, tugging her closer.
After they kissed, Nick pulled away and looked at her, his eyes flashing yellow. “I belong to you alone, Fred,” he said, his fingers tangling in her hair. He looked toward the closet and smirked. “What do you have in there, darling? It smells delicious.”
“A birthday present,” Fred said as she slipped off the bed and went to the closet. She opened the door and pulled a girl out. “Go ahead.”
He didn’t have to be told twice and quickly shifted into his vampire face. His fangs pierced her neck and he deeply drank. When he was finished, he got rid of the body, using his knowledge as a CSI to hide it so no one would find it right away. And when he returned to the room, he was rewarded with a naked Fred, laid out on the bed.
“Lets see what else my Childe is capable of,” she said as she held out her hand.
Nick smiled and quickly disrobe. He intended to thank Fred, several times, for killing the pathetic human he’d once been.
