You'd be surprised at how many people get really snarky about it.

Any time you want to learn more about it, feel free to ask. :) There are tons of different ways, and none is the right one, but we're working on figuring out what is right for us.

My favorite is #17. I think I would follow it up with, "you're right you probably couldn't. You are too stupid and close minded for a concept like home schooling."

LOL

I found your LJ by chance and thought I'd comment on this. Honestly, this made me laugh. I grew up in Southern California and was homeschooled all the way through high school (minus a semester of elementary school when I was seven), and it still amazes me the way that people react when they find out about my previous education. I'm a sucessful university student with a bright future and I still get funny looks whenever I say those three, seemingly infamous words, "I was homeschooled." Gasp! The horror! "Don't you feel bad that you missed out on all those acvities? Prom? Dating? Was it hard to get into college?" Honestly? No. I had a fantastic childhood, thank you very much. And just because I was homeschooled doesn't mean I never dated; I'm in a successful relationship. College was a breeze to get into and it's probably a lot more fun to me than it is to some people.
I applaud you for your hard work, because I know what a struggle it can be at times. Thanks for posting this, it really made me smile.

Thank you so much for commenting! It's always encouraging to me to talk with teens or young adults who were homeschooled and are doing just fine. Or exceptionally well in your case!

Did you find it difficult going into college or was your school accepting of your Homeschool Transcripts? Did your family have a school name that you went by from high school on?

I'm so glad to be able to get a chance to talk to you and hear what it's like a while down the road. :)

My college is an open enrollment college, so they were willing to work with me. Luckily I had enough brothers and sisters for us to be considered a private school, so that made things even easier. All I had to do was take a compass test and the ACT, as I hadn't taken it yet, and I was good to go. I got in just before my college reached univeristy status so that was even better. And yes, we had a name for our school: Reed Valley Academy. Granted, I have had to take some lower math classes because I've always struggled with mathematics but I find it a small price to pay for a good, solid education.

What a wonderful success story you are! We've only got the one daughter, so not enough to qualify for our own private school, but I was thinking of naming our little homeschool just for fun.

No worries about the lower math classes, I received a college degree from Syracuse, and when I went back to Grad school I had to take those same math courses because I'm still terrible at them.
