so sometimes when i see someone's rig, i like to remake it in my head.  during angel guys practice on friday, i saw todd's board and wanted to do it.  and while doing it, i got really fucking confused.  i have no idea what is going on that board.  i mean i 'get' it.  but i'm unsure of it's ( Read more... )

hmmm...as much as i hate to admit it, i always thought of todd as a lead guitarist. not because he totally shreds or anything, but because i feel like i write more riffs than him, and he gets to just have fun on top of them while i'm "holding it down."

speaking of holding it down...i feel like i'm locked up with ryan (as much as one can be) way more often than nader.

i always appreciate your insight. i'm sure you still feel new, but hope that in the future you'll feel comfortable telling us when we sound like shit...or when our gear/tone is out of whack.

i would forward what you wrote to todd. i don't think he'd be offended or anything (unless he really feels like a lead guitarist!)

yeah, i guess my idea of lead is way different than the default widdly widdly. although you may be the locked in rhytmn guitarist i would like to believe that is the focus(aka groove based). and todd's textural/widdly over it is adding to that basis.

so my concept of 'lead' is a misnomer.

and as for the bass/drum lockdown, i agree. at least someone is locked down. so like it's good as you and ryan link up. then todd, nader and i just lolly gag around that.

it's weird to over analyze it.

i don't think it's that weird to (over)analyze it. i think it's a great way to streamline and improve. like, after this i think i'm going to try and work with nader more and make sure he's locked up with ryan as much as possible...even if that just means he's doubling up with me.
